Hudson was originally called Rattlesnake, and under the latter name was founded in the early 1880s. It was renamed Hudson about 1887. Hudson was incorporated as a city in 1908.

The BikeLoud crew, a group of seven Boy Scouts who cycled across the country to raise money for Cancer Research, spent a night in Hudson during their cross country bicycle ride in July, 2015.
