According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), of which, 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,290 people, 542 households, and 405 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,388.3 people per square mile (535.6/km²). There were 573 housing units at an average density of 616.7 per square mile (237.9/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.47% White, 0.14% African American, 0.23% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.62% of the population.
There were 542 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
