Ortonville is a city in Big Stone county in the U.S. state of Minnesota at the southern tip of Big Stone Lake, along the border with South Dakota. The population was 1,916 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Big Stone County. Big Stone Lake State Park is nearby.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,916 people, 884 households, and 509 families residing in the city. The population density was 545.9 inhabitants per square mile (210.8/km2). There were 1,090 housing units at an average density of 310.5 per square mile (119.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.0% White, 0.3% African American, 0.6% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.
