According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.58 square miles (6.68 km2), of which, 2.45 square miles (6.35 km2) is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 km2) is water. Most of the city lies in Waupaca County, with only a small portion extending into Shawano County.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,260 people, 538 households, and 351 families residing in the city. The population density was 514.3 inhabitants per square mile (198.6/km2). There were 617 housing units at an average density of 251.8 per square mile (97.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.4% White, 0.1% African American, 1.5% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.

There were 538 households of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.8% were non-families. 27.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
