Local Area Info: Steve-O
Stephen Gilchrist Glover (born June 13, 1974), better known by his stage name Steve-O, is an actor, stunt performer, producer, stand-up comedian, author, musician, and clown who holds British, American, and Canadian citizenship. His entertainment career is mostly centered on his performance stunts on the American TV series Jackass, its related movies, and its spin-off series Wildboyz.
Stephen Gilchrist Glover was born in Wimbledon, London, on June 13, 1974. His mother, Donna Gay Glover (née Wauthier; died November 7, 2003), was Canadian, and his father, Richard Edward "Ted" Glover, was half English and half American. His maternal step-grandfather was voice-over announcer Wayne Howell. When he was two years old, his family moved to Brazil due to his father's job as president of the South American division of Pepsi-Cola, and Steve-O stated in an interview with Graham Bensinger that his first words were in Portuguese. His family moved from Brazil to Venezuela, where he learned fluent Spanish; at age four, he moved to Connecticut; at age six, he moved to Miami, Florida; at nine years old, he moved back to England; at age 12, he moved to Toronto, Ontario; and at age 13, he moved back to England again, remaining there through all four years of high school at the American School in London in until he graduated.[citation needed]
Growing up, Steve-O was an avid Mötley Crüe fan. On October 25, 1987, Mötley Crüe was playing at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto where his family was living at the time. He phoned every hotel in the vicinity until he found the name that the band usually checked in under, that of manager Doc McGhee. He did not speak to Doc, rather his brother Scott, but McGhee was so impressed with the resolve of Steve-O to meet Mötley Crüe that he brought him out for their show, let him meet them, and hang with them backstage as told in Tommy Lee's autobiography.[citation needed]
