Como is located in northern Hertford County at 36°30?0?N 77°0?53?W? / ?36.50000°N 77.01472°W? / 36.50000; -77.01472 (36.499873, -77.014601). U.S. Route 258 runs through the community, leading southwest 7 miles (11 km) to Murfreesboro and northeast 15 miles (24 km) to Franklin, Virginia.
Another well-known resident was the hoodoo root doctor Jim Jordan, who died in the early 1960s. Jordan, who was of mixed African American and Native American heritage, was the subject of the biographical book The Fabled Dr. Jim Jordan written by F. Roy Johnson of nearby Murfreesboro.
