According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.8 square miles (92.7 km²), of which, 35.5 square miles (91.9 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (0.78%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,024 people, 362 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 28.8 people per square mile (11.1/km²). There were 380 housing units at an average density of 10.7 per square mile (4.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.93% White, 0.10% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.59% of the population.
There were 362 households out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.4% were married couples living together, 2.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% were non-families. 15.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.16.
