Select the Right Testing Panel
Drug testing panels categorize tests by the number of substances screened. Common panels include 5, 10, and 12 drugs, with customized options available.
Understanding Drug Tests
A drug test evaluates a biological sample, such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva, to identify specific drugs or their metabolites. Applications include athletic doping tests, legal, and occupational screenings. Tests use various methods, with differing detection timelines and sensitivities. They may also quantitatively analyze illegal substances for responsible use.
False Positives from Passive Marijuana Smoke
Exposing oneself to marijuana smoke is insufficient for a valid result under established testing thresholds. Abnormalities suggesting false negatives or sample tampering are detected by evaluating factors such as low creatinine levels or altered pH due to improper sample handing or content modifying attempts.
- Low creatinine can signal sample dilution either by the subject or through added water. Labs may use blue water in toilets to counteract this.
- Variations like manipulated enzyme levels can change sample pH, which is monitored during testing.
How Long Drugs Remain Detectable
Drug detection windows vary, influenced by several factors:
- Drug dosage
- Frequency of drug use
- Type of drug
- Individual metabolism and health
- Fluid intake since drug use
- Physical activity level post-drug use
- Genetic variations affecting drug processing
