Selecting the Right Drug Testing Panel
Drug test screening groups, often called drug panels, are tailored according to the number of drugs being screened. Common options include 5-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests, with custom screenings also available.
Understanding Drug Tests
A drug test involves analyzing a biological specimen, such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva, to detect specified drugs or metabolites. Applications range from identifying performance-enhancing drugs in sports to screening employees or parolees. Police also utilize BAC (blood alcohol content) tests, typically done through a breathalyzer — though urinalysis remains the most common method for workplace and sports testing. Other testing approaches vary in accuracy, sensitivity, and detection periods.
Can Passive Smoke Inhalation Lead to False Positives for Marijuana?
Exposure to passive smoke from individuals smoking marijuana doesn't typically risk a false positive, as laboratory analysis thresholds are set well above levels associated with passive inhalation.
Various urine sample abnormalities may suggest false negatives or deliberate adulteration, such as:
- Low creatinine levels suggesting dilution, either by excessive fluid intake pre-testing or by adding water to the sample.
- Creatinine measurements combined with specific gravity checks help identify sample dilution. Some labs utilize blue-dyed water in toilets to prevent dilution.
- Attempts to alter the sample with enzymes often change pH, which is tested too.
How Long Do Drugs Linger in Your System?
The detection window of a drug, or look-back period, is influenced by several factors, including:
- Quantity of drug consumed
- Frequency of usage
- Type of drug
- Individual's metabolic rate and overall health
- Fluid consumption post-ingestion
- Physical activity following use
- Any genetic variations affecting drug response

Local Area Info: South Jordan, Utah
South Jordan is a city in south central Salt Lake County, Utah, 18 miles (29 km) south of Salt Lake City. Part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, the city lies in the Salt Lake Valley along the banks of the Jordan River between the 9,000-foot (2,700 m) Oquirrh Mountains and the 12,000-foot (3,700 m) Wasatch Mountains. The city has 3.5 miles (5.6 km) of the Jordan River Parkway that contains fishing ponds, trails, parks, and natural habitats. The Salt Lake County fair grounds and equestrian park, 67-acre (27 ha) Oquirrh Lake, and 27 parks are located inside the city. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 50,418.
Founded in 1859 by Mormon settlers and historically an agrarian town, South Jordan has become a rapidly growing bedroom community of Salt Lake City. Kennecott Land, a land development company, has recently begun construction on the master-planned Daybreak Community for the entire western half of South Jordan, potentially doubling South Jordan's population. South Jordan is the first city in the world with two temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jordan River Utah Temple and Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple. The city has two TRAX light rail stops, as well as one commuter rail stop on the FrontRunner. South Jordan is also a growing tech hub with headquarters of companies like IT software company Ivanti.
The first known inhabitants were members of the Desert Archaic Culture who were nomadic hunter-gatherers. From 400 A.D. to around 1350 A.D., the Fremont people settled into villages and farmed corn and squash. Changes in climatic conditions to a cooler, drier period and the movement into the area of ancestors of the Ute, Paiute, and Shoshone, led to the disappearance of the Fremont people. When European settlers arrived, there were no permanent Native American settlements in the Salt Lake Valley, but the area bordered several tribes – the territory of the Northwestern Shoshone to the north, the Timpanogots band of the Utes to the south in Utah Valley, and the Goshutes to the west in Tooele Valley.
