Choosing the Right Drug Testing Panel

Drug test groupings are often called panels, with popular options being 5, 10, or 12-panel tests (indicating the number of drugs screened). Custom options are available.

Understanding Drug Tests

A drug test analytically examines a biological sample, such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or oral fluid, to identify specific drugs or their metabolites. Major uses include detecting performance-enhancing drugs in sports, employer screenings for banned substances, and law enforcement testing for blood alcohol content (BAC). BAC testing uses a breathalyzer, while most workplace and sports drug tests utilize urinalysis. Various other methods with differing accuracy and detection periods are in use. Testing may also enumerate the chemical makeup of illegal substances to promote informed usage.

Impact of Passive Marijuana Smoke Inhalation

Exposure to marijuana smoke passively, such as being in proximity to individuals smoking in a room, is typically not a valid cause for a false positive, as drug testing labs set their cut-off levels well above this threshold.

If a urine screening reveals abnormalities, it could imply a false negative result or intentional sample tampering. Examples include:

  • Low creatinine could suggest sample dilution through excessive water intake by the subject or by adding water to the specimen.
  • Creatinine levels, combined with specific gravity, help indicate sample dilution. Testing labs often dye toilet water blue to prevent dilution.
  • Subjects might try adding enzymes to alter the sample, but this may affect the pH, which is tested as well.

Drug Detection Duration in Your System

A drug test's detection window is dependent on several factors, such as:

  • The dosage of the drug used
  • How often the drug was used
  • The specific drug type
  • Individual metabolism and overall health
  • Fluid intake since drug usage
  • Physical activity level after drug usage
  • Genetic differences affecting drug processing

Omaha is the anchor of the eight-county, bi-state Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The Omaha Metropolitan Area is the 59th largest in the United States, with an estimated population of 944,316 (2018). The Omaha-Council Bluffs-Fremont, NE-IA Combined Statistical Area (CSA) encompasses the Omaha-Council Bluffs MSA as well as the separate Fremont, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area, which consists of the entirety of Dodge County, Nebraska. The total population of the CSA was 970,023 based on 2017 estimates. Approximately 1.3 million people reside within the Greater Omaha area, within a 50 mi (80 km) radius of Downtown Omaha.

Omaha's pioneer period began in 1854, when the city was founded by speculators from neighboring Council Bluffs, Iowa. The city was founded along the Missouri River, and a crossing called Lone Tree Ferry earned the city its nickname, the "Gateway to the West". Omaha introduced this new West to the world in 1898, when it played host to the World's Fair, dubbed the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. During the 19th century, Omaha's central location in the United States spurred the city to become an important national transportation hub. Throughout the rest of the 19th century, the transportation and jobbing sectors were important in the city, along with its railroads and breweries. In the 20th century, the Omaha Stockyards, once the world's largest, and its meatpacking plants gained international prominence.
