Understanding Drug Testing
A drug test involves the technical assessment of a biological sample, such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva, to detect the presence or absence of specific parent drugs or their metabolites. These tests are used to identify performance-enhancing steroids in sports, as well as unlawful drugs by employers, parole/probation officers, and police officers assessing blood alcohol content (BAC) using a breathalyzer. Many other testing methods exist, with various accuracy levels, sensitivity, and detection windows. Tests can also quantitatively analyze illegal drugs for responsible usage insights.
Does Passive Smoke Cause a Marijuana False Positive?
Passive inhalation in a room where others smoke marijuana isn’t generally valid for a positive result, as lab thresholds are set above such levels. However, irregularities in a sample may suggest a false negative or deliberate adulteration:
- Low creatinine could indicate diluted urine or water added to the sample.
- Creatinine levels and specific gravity verify whether a sample is diluted. To prevent this, testing labs might color toilet water.
- Adding enzymes affects sample stability and pH levels, which are also measured.
Drug Retention in Your System
A drug’s retention time can be affected by:
- Amount of drug taken
- Frequency of drug usage
- Drug type
- Individual's metabolism and health
- Fluid consumption after ingestion
- Exercise after ingestion
- Genetic variations affecting drug response

Local Area Info: New Braunfels, Texas
New Braunfels (/?br??nf?lz/ (listen) BRAWN-felz) is a city in Comal and Guadalupe counties in the U.S. state of Texas, located in the northeastern part of Greater San Antonio. It is the seat of Comal County and 32 miles (51 km) from Downtown San Antonio. The city covers 44.9 square miles (116 km2) and has a 2017 estimated population of 79,152.
New Braunfels was established in 1845 by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, Commissioner General of the Adelsverein, also known as the Noblemen's Society (in German: Mainzer Adelsverein). Prince Solms named the settlement in honor of his home of Solms-Braunfels, Germany.
The Adelsverein organized hundreds of people in Germany to settle in Texas. Immigrants from Germany began arriving at Galveston in July 1844. Most then traveled by ship to Indianola in December 1844, and began the overland journey to the Fisher-Miller land grant purchased by Prince Solms. At the urging of John Coffee Hays, who realized the settlers would not have time to build homes and plant crops further inland before winter, and as the German settlers were traveling inland along the Guadalupe River, they stopped near the Comal Springs. Prince Solms bought two leagues of land from Rafael Garza and Maria Antonio Veramendi Garza for $1,111.00.
