Choosing the Right Drug Testing Panel
Drug screening groups, or panels, define the number of drugs tested. Common panels include the 5, 10, and 12-panel tests, with options for custom screenings as well.
Understanding Drug Tests
A drug test involves a technical analysis of a biological sample, like urine, hair, blood, or saliva, to detect the presence of specific drugs or their byproducts. Employers and law enforcement frequently use these tests for compliance and safety. Urinalysis is prevalent in sports and workplaces, while BAC tests assess alcohol levels via breathalyzers. Each testing method has varying accuracy and detection ranges.
Passive Smoke Inhalation and Marijuana Testing
Exposure to secondhand marijuana smoke doesn't typically result in a positive test, as lab thresholds are set to eliminate this possibility.
Abnormalities in urine may hint at false negatives or tampering attempts, such as:
- Low creatinine levels suggest dilution either by excessive fluid intake or water addition.
- Creatinine with specific gravity helps determine dilution, with blue water added to test toilets as a countermeasure.
- Adding enzymes to tamper can alter pH, which is also checked.
Detecting Drugs in Your System
The detection window of drugs varies based on factors like usage frequency and personal health. Factors include:
- Drug dosage
- Usage frequency
- Drug type
- Individual metabolic rate and health
- Fluid intake post-consumption
- Physical activity post-consumption
- Genetic factors affecting drug processing
