Local Mission Information
Local Area Info: Mission, Kansas
The site where Mission now sits was once a rest stop for wagons moving westward on the Santa Fe Trail during the 19th Century.[citation needed] The clear spring water rising to the surface in present-day Mission made it an ideal place to collect drinking water for horses and travelers. For years the area was owned as a homestead by the Breyfogel family, who subdivided their land into 245 lots and sold them off in the early 20th Century.[citation needed] The town grew up slowly in the 1920s and 1930s, benefiting from its close proximity to Kansas City, Missouri.[citation needed] After World War II however, the town grew rapidly amid the post-war housing boom, as young families from Kansas City purchased their first homes.[citation needed]
Mission is located at 39°1?32?N 94°39?22?W? / ?39.02556°N 94.65611°W? / 39.02556; -94.65611 (39.025572, -94.656056). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.68 square miles (6.94 km2), of which, 2.67 square miles (6.92 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 9,323 people, 5,000 households, and 2,130 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,491.8 inhabitants per square mile (1,348.2/km2). There were 5,477 housing units at an average density of 2,051.3 per square mile (792.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 84.6% White, 5.5% African American, 0.4% Native American, 3.9% Asian, 2.6% from other races, and 3.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
Mission Employee Drug Testing
Businesses that utilize an employee drug testing program are commonly referred to as a Drug Free Workplace. However, many times companies do not fully qualify as a Drug Free Workplace because the drug testing program which they use does not have all of the components which make up a true Drug Free Workplace.
The benefits of being a true Drug Free Workplace can include but are not limited to:
- Enhanced Employee Performance
- Reduced Job Related Accidents
- Reduced Employee Absenteeism
- Lower Workers Compensation Rates
- Improved Employee Moral
- Customer Satisfaction
In addition, many companies regardless of size report that being a Drug Free Workplace has increased the quality of job applicants and improved the overall workplace environment.
States Which Provide Workers Compensation Discounts for Drug Free Workplace Programs
Alabama 5% | Arkansas 5% | Kansas 5% |
Kentucky 5% | Misissippi 5% | Ohio 5% |
Tennessee 5% | Virginia 5% | Washington 5% |
In addition to the States listed above, New York, Idaho, Hawaii and many other States also offer Workers Compensation Insurance discounts for employers who qualify as a drug free workplace. Discounts are based on individual program requirements and have no fixed rate.
Accredited Drug Testing Inc will work with your insurance agent to insure that any available discounts are provided for implementing and properly maintaining a drug free workplace.
Any company can benefit by being a Drug Free Workplace regardless of the number of employees but it is crucially important that any business that wishes to be a Drug Free Workplace maintain the program properly.
A properly maintained Drug Free Workplace should include the following:
- A written Drug Free Workplace Policy
- Employee Drug Testing
- Employee Education
- Supervisor Training
- Employee Assistance Program(EAP)
- Drug Free Workplace Signage
Studies have shown that substance abuse among employees has serious repercussions for both the working environment and the economic success of the business. As a result of drug and alcohol abuse, employers see increased costs related to medical fees, absenteeism and overall productivity.
