Local Council Grove Information

Local Area Info: Council Grove, Kansas

Council Grove is a city and county seat in Morris County, Kansas, United States. This city is fifty-five miles southwest of Topeka. It was named after an agreement between European Americans and the Osage Nation about allowing settlers' wagon trains to pass through the area and proceed to the West. Pioneers gathered at a grove of trees so that wagons could band together for their trip west. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 2,182.

Council Grove was one of the last stops on the Santa Fe Trail heading southwest. The first European-American settler was Seth Millington Hays, who came to the area in 1847 to trade with the Kaw tribe, which had a reservation established in the area in 1846. Hays was a great grandson of Daniel Boone.

The Main street in Council Grove is the old Santa Fe Trail. Traveling seven blocks West from the bridge, you come to the oldest stone home on the Santa Fe Trail in the State of Kansas, which houses the Trail Days Cafe & Museum, where History comes alive. In this museum you can dine on foods of the American Indians, Settlers, farmers and town folks from long ago, when animals were grass fed and food was home cooked. This is a "one of a kind" museum food experience in an 1861 Victorian parlor where once wagons rolled by the front door. An Indian pictograph is carved on the walnut casing of the parlor back door.

Businesses that utilize an employee drug testing program are commonly referred to as a Drug Free Workplace. Any company can benefit by being a Drug Free Workplace regardless of the number of employees but it is crucially important that any business that wishes to be a Drug Free Workplace maintain the program properly.
