Choosing the Right Drug Testing Panel

Drug test groupings are often called testing panels. The most prevalently used panels are 5, 10, and 12-panel drug tests (indicating the number of drugs screened). Custom options are also available.

Understanding Drug Tests

A drug test involves analyzing a biological sample—urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or oral fluid/saliva—to detect the presence of drugs or their metabolites. Drug testing has several applications, such as identifying performance-enhancing drugs in sports, employer screenings for illegal substances, and police testing for blood alcohol concentration (BAC). BAC tests often utilize breathalyzers, while urinalysis dominates sports and workplace drug tests. Various methods with differing accuracy, sensitivity, and detection lengths exist. Drug tests can also quantitatively analyze illegal drugs to support responsible use.

Does Passive Smoke Cause a Marijuana False Positive?

"Passive" smoke inhalation, like being in a room with marijuana smokers, is not considered viable since lab thresholds are set much higher than passive inhalation values.

Other irregularities in a urine screen could suggest false negatives or sample tampering. For example:

  • A low creatinine level might indicate sample tampering, either through excessive hydration before testing or water addition to the urine.
  • Creatinine levels, paired with specific gravity, help ascertain sample dilution. Labs might color toilet water blue to prevent sample dilution.
  • Attempted additions of enzymes to affect sample stability often change the pH, which is also analyzed.

How Long Do Drugs Remain in Your System?

The detection window or look-back period of a drug test varies based on multiple factors, including:

  • Drug quantity ingested
  • Frequency of drug use
  • Drug type
  • An individual's metabolic rate and health status
  • Fluid intake following drug use
  • Physical activity since drug intake
  • Genetic differences affecting drug response

Local Area Info: Lakeville, Minnesota

Lakeville /?le?kv?l/ is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. It is a suburb of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, approximately 20 miles (32 km) south of both downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. Lakeville is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Twin Cities area. The U.S. Census Bureau recorded its population at 55,954 in 2010.

Lakeville lies along Interstate Highway 35. Lakeville first became notable in 1910 when Marion Savage built the Dan Patch Railroad Line to service his Antlers Amusement Park. It later became a flourishing milling center; its agriculture industry is still in operation. While many of Lakeville's workers commute northward to Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and more central suburbs like Bloomington, Lakeville has had major industry since the 1960s—including the Airlake Industrial Park, which is served by Airlake Airport, a regional reliever airport.

The Sioux people ceded most of southern Minnesota in the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux in 1851. A military road was constructed between Fort Snelling and the southern forts.[which?] In 1855, J.J. Brackett, a Saint Paul lumber baron and mail carrier using the road, decided to plat a site halfway between Saint Paul and Saint Peter on a lake he named Prairie Lake. The village was established as Lakeville Township in 1858. Notoriety came when Colonel Marion Savage expanded his entertainment business into constructing Antlers Amusement Park in 1910. Riding on fame from his success with the Dan Patch racing horse and the popularity of the park, the lake was renamed Lake Marion, and the rail line servicing the park named the Dan Patch Railroad Line.
