Choosing the Right Drug Testing Panel
Drug testing panels refer to the selection of drug screenings. Common options include 5-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests, but customized panels can be arranged.
Understanding Drug Tests
A drug test involves the technical analysis of biological specimens like urine, hair, blood, breath, or saliva to identify the presence of specific drugs or their metabolites. Key uses include detection of performance-enhancing drugs in sports, and substance screens by employers or law enforcement. Blood alcohol content is typically measured by breathalyzer, while urinalysis is widespread in workplaces and sports. Drug tests may range in accuracy and detection windows, also covering quantified analysis of illegal substances.
Does Passive Smoke Inhalation Lead to False Marijuana Positives?
Passive smoke from being around marijuana smokers will not lead to false positives in drug tests, as lab cut-off levels are set higher than such exposure would affect.
Urine test anomalies could suggest false negatives or tampering, such as:
- Low creatinine may hint at dilution, either through excessive water intake or sample tampering.
- Creatinine and specific gravity are jointly assessed to check for dilution. To deter tampering, testing facilities may dye toilet water before sample collection.
- Attempts to alter the sample using enzymes may affect pH, another aspect that is tested.
Drug Detection Duration
The detection period, or "look-back" period, of a drug test depends on various factors. These include:
- Dosage of the drug
- Frequency of use
- Type of substance
- Individual's metabolism and overall health
- Fluid intake since drug use
- Exercise since drug use
- Genetic differences influencing drug response
