Selecting the Right Drug Testing Panel

Drug test panels, named for the number of drugs screened (e.g., 5, 10, or 12 panels), are the standard. Custom tests can also be arranged.

The Purpose of a Drug Test

Drug testing involves analyzing biological samples (such as urine, hair, blood, and oral fluids) to identify particular drugs or their byproducts. Applications range from detecting performance-enhancing drug use among athletes to legal and employment-related screenings. Tests like BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) are frequently administered via breathalyzer, whereas urinalysis is standard in athletics and work environments.

Does Passive Marijuana Smoke Inhalation Lead to False Positives?

"Passive" inhalation by being in a room with marijuana smokers isn't considered a risk, as lab cut-off levels exceed those from merely passive exposure.

Irregularities in urine test results may indicate tampering or false negatives. For instance:

  • Low creatinine might suggest dilution by drinking extra water or direct sample dilution.
  • Creatinine and specific gravity values help identify dilution attempts. Testing labs may color water blue to prevent sample contamination from toilets.
  • Enzyme addition may alter a sample's pH, exposing potential adulteration.

Drug Presence Detection Timeframe

Drug detection periods can be influenced by:

  • Dosage quantity
  • Usage frequency
  • Drug type
  • Individual metabolism and overall health
  • Fluid intake post-consumption
  • Physical activity post-consumption
  • Genetic factors affecting drug response
