Which Drug Testing Panel Fits Your Needs?
Drug screening packages are termed as drug testing panels. The most common are 5, 10, and 12 panel tests based on the number of drugs scrutinized, with custom screenings also available.
Understanding Drug Tests
A drug test analyzes a biological sample such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva to identify the presence of drugs or their metabolites. Major uses include detecting steroids in sports or checking for illegal drug use by employers, parole/probation officers, and law enforcement. Blood alcohol content (BAC) is measured using breath tests, and urinalysis is widely used in workplaces and sports. Tests offer varying reliability, sensitivity, and detection timelines, and can also evaluate the composition of drugs for responsible use.
Can Passive Smoke Exposure Result in a False Positive for Marijuana?
Passive inhalation from being near marijuana smokers will not yield a positive result since lab thresholds are set well above levels possible through passive exposure.
Alterations in urine screenings might suggest false negatives or deliberate tampering. For example:
- Low creatinine levels may suggest dilution from overhydration or water addition to the sample.
- Creatinine and specific gravity levels help identify dilute samples. Labs may color toilet water blue to prevent dilution using toilet water.
- Adding enzymes to urine for altering stability can change the pH, which is tested for during analysis.
Duration of Drugs in the System
The detection duration of drugs in a test is influenced by several factors. These include the quantity, frequency, and type of drug intake, an individual’s metabolic rate, health condition, hydration levels, exercise habits, and other genetic differences affecting the drug response.
