Ponderay ( /p?nd??re?/ pond-?-RAY) is a city in Bonner County, Idaho. The population was 1,137 at the 2010 census, up from 638 in 2000. Ponderay's city motto is "Little City with the Big Future". As of 2012, the city of Ponderay has the highest crime rate in the entire state of Idaho.

Ponderay's original plat was filed in Kootenai County on 1904-05-05. It was incorporated as the Village of Ponderay on 1947-05-27, and became the City of Ponderay on 1968-11-26. Ponderay was built on the site of the company town of the Panhandle Smelting and Refining Company.

Ponderay is located at 48°18?11?N 116°32?18?W? / ?48.30306°N 116.53833°W? / 48.30306; -116.53833 (48.303080, -116.538292), at an elevation of 2,126 feet (648 m) above sea level. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.02 square miles (7.82 km2), of which, 2.90 square miles (7.51 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) is water.
