According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.7 square miles (30 km2), of which 11.7 square miles (30 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (0.26%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 483 people, 188 households, and 141 families residing in the town. The population density was 41.2 people per square mile (15.9/km²). There were 217 housing units at an average density of 18.5 per square mile (7.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 68.94% White, 30.43% Black, 0.21% Asian, and 0.41% from two or more races.

There are 188 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 21.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
