Green Forest is located at 36°20?6?N 93°25?58?W? / ?36.33500°N 93.43278°W? / 36.33500; -93.43278 (36.334924, -93.432655). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²), all land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,271 people, 1072 households, and 977 families residing in the city. The population density was 458.1/km² (1,187.4/mi²). There were 1,146 housing units at an average density of 176.4/km² (457.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 64.3% White, 0.40% Black or African American, 1.07% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.37% Pacific Islander, 12.37% from other races, and 2.76% from two or more races. 33.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1072 households out of which 37.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 23.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.27.
