The first settlement at Belgium was made in 1848. A large share of the early settlers being natives of Belgium caused the name to be selected. A post office called Belgium has been in operation since 1857.
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,245 people, 817 households, and 608 families residing in the village. The population density was 927.7 inhabitants per square mile (358.2/km2). There were 848 housing units at an average density of 350.4 per square mile (135.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.5% white, 0.4% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 2.9% from other races, and 0.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 817 households of which 41.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.0% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 25.6% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.24.
