West Salem is a village in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,464 at the 2010 census. West Salem is served by a branch of the Wayne County Public Library. The noted drag racing track Dragway 42 is located nearby.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,464 people, 558 households, and 393 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,343.1 inhabitants per square mile (518.6/km2). There were 620 housing units at an average density of 568.8 per square mile (219.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.8% White, 0.1% African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.0% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 558 households of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 29.6% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.00.
