Elgin is a city in Grant County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 642 at the 2010 census.

Elgin was platted in 1910 when the railroad was extended to that point. The name Elgin was said to be inspired by a citizen's Elgin pocket watch. A post office has been in operation at Elgin since 1910.

On July 4, 1978 an F4 tornado struck Elgin, causing 5 deaths and 35 injuries.
