Local Area Info: Grindstone-Rowes Run, Pennsylvania
Grindstone-Rowes Run was a census-designated place (CDP) in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,141 at the 2000 census. For the 2010 census the area was split into two CDPs, Grindstone and Rowes Run. The village of Grindstone is located in Jefferson Township, while Rowes Run is located in Redstone Township.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,141 people, 484 households, and 323 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 531.7 people per square mile (204.9/km²). There were 530 housing units at an average density of 247.0/sq mi (95.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.35% White, 3.07% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.
There were 484 households, out of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% were married couples living together, 14.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.92.
