According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.67 square miles (17.28 km2), of which, 6.57 square miles (17.02 km2) is land and 0.10 square miles (0.26 km2) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 9,305 people, 3,960 households, and 2,299 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,416.3 inhabitants per square mile (546.8/km2). There were 4,309 housing units at an average density of 655.9 per square mile (253.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 82.4% White, 0.7% African American, 12.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.1% of the population.
