According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 31.05 square miles (80.42 km2), of which, 29.73 square miles (77.00 km2) of it is land and 1.32 square miles (3.42 km2) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,380 people, 537 households, and 366 families residing in the town. The population density was 46.4 inhabitants per square mile (17.9/km2). There were 615 housing units at an average density of 20.7 per square mile (8.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 96.4% White, 0.2% African American, 1.0% Native American, 0.2% Asian, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.

There were 537 households of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 31.8% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.97.
