Pickrell was laid out in 1884 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named for William Pickrell, one of the original owners of the town site. Pickrell was incorporated as a village in 1913.

As of the census of 2010, there were 199 people, 84 households, and 56 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,809.1 inhabitants per square mile (698.5/km2). There were 87 housing units at an average density of 790.9 per square mile (305.4/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.0% White, 1.0% Native American, 0.5% Asian, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.

There were 84 households of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
