Gresham was originally called Poston, and under the latter name was platted in 1887 when the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad was extended to that point. When it was discovered there was another place in the state with the name Poston, the town was renamed in honor of Walter Q. Gresham, at that time United States Secretary of the Treasury.

As of the census of 2010, there were 223 people, 94 households, and 59 families residing in the village. The population density was 825.9 inhabitants per square mile (318.9/km2). There were 125 housing units at an average density of 463.0 per square mile (178.8/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.8% White, 0.4% African American, 0.4% Native American, and 1.3% from two or more races.

There were 94 households of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.2% were non-families. 34.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 3.03.
