As of the census of 2000, there were 1,469 people, 594 households, and 414 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,767.4 people per square mile (683.4/km²). There were 632 housing units at an average density of 760.4 per square mile (294.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.25% White, 0.14% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.07% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.23% of the population.

There were 594 households out of which 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.01.
