Blockton was founded by the Mormons in 1861, and it was originally known as Mormontown. After the Mormons left the area, the Chicago Great Western Railway was built through the town and it was renamed Blockton in honor of W. T. Block, a railroad official.

As of the census of 2010, there were 192 people, 86 households, and 53 families residing in the city. The population density was 295.4 inhabitants per square mile (114.1/km2). There were 110 housing units at an average density of 169.2 per square mile (65.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.5% White and 0.5% Native American.
