In 1897 a new brick school house was built in the west part of Benson. This school was built on a spot of land overlooking the Bear River. At first there were eight grades of school taught in two rooms. Later, as more children were enrolled, there were only grades one through six.

Local Area Info: Benson, Utah

Benson is a census-designated place (CDP) in Cache County, Utah, United States. It is immediately south of Amalga, across State Route 218, and is west of the Logan-Cache Airport. The population was 1,485 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Logan, Utah-Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 33.4 square miles (86.5 km2), of which 30.4 square miles (78.7 km2) is land and 3.0 square miles (7.8 km2), or 9.01%, is water. The water consists of the southern and eastern ends of Cutler Reservoir on the Little Bear and Bear rivers.

Some of the earliest buildings built in Benson were for educational purposes. They were small log buildings of just one room, and later other rooms were added to some of them. These buildings were only temporary structures where the basic three "R's" were taught, and were later replaced by more permanent structures.
