As of the census of 2000, there were 2,873 people, 1,217 households, and 837 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,202.9 people per square mile (464.1/km²). There were 1,267 housing units at an average density of 530.5/sq mi (204.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.35% White, 1.18% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.07% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.52% of the population.

There were 1,217 households out of which 26.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
