Local Area Info: Mountainboro, Boaz

Mountainboro is a neighborhood of the city of Boaz in Etowah County, Alabama, United States. Once a separate town, it is part of the Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its population was 338 at the 2000 census, at which time it was still separate.

Mountainboro was incorporated on October 31, 1963. Additional land was annexed into the town on March 12, 1981 and September 14, 1993. The 1993 annexation included the Skyhaven Estate subdivision. In October 2007, a referendum that proposed the annexation of Mountainboro by the city of Boaz passed by a one-vote margin. The result of the referendum was challenged, and legal activities delayed further action until 2009. At that time, Etowah County Circuit Judge David Kimberley upheld the result of the 2007 referendum. On August 10, 2009, the Boaz City Council passed an ordinance to annex the territory within the town limits of Mountainboro. Mountainboro ceased to exist as a town when it was officially annexed by the city of Boaz on August 14, 2009.

As of the census of 2000, there were 338 people, 128 households, and 88 families residing in the town. The population density was 417.9 people per square mile (161.1/km²). There were 142 housing units at an average density of 175.6 per square mile (67.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.15% White, 0.30% Black or African American, 1.48% Asian, 0.89% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 1.78% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
