Dickeyville was not formally platted. The village was named for Charles Dickey, who opened a general store in the early 1840s. He was also the first postmaster when the post office was established (as Dickeysville) in 1849.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,061 people, 459 households, and 289 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,205.7 inhabitants per square mile (465.5/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 535.2 per square mile (206.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 99.1% White, 0.2% African American, 0.4% from other races, and 0.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
