In November 2013, AT&T announced that the Onion Creek neighborhood would become one of four Austin neighborhoods to get their new GigaPower high speed internet service.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,116 people, 1,002 households, and 742 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 656.1 people per square mile (253.7/km²). There were 1,038 housing units at an average density of 321.9/sq mi (124.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.10% White, 1.18% African American, 0.28% Native American, 1.13% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.65% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.12% of the population.
