Mount Vernon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Somerset County, Maryland, United States. The population was 761 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.9 square miles (41 km2), of which, 13.1 square miles (34 km2) of it is land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) of it (17.59%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 761 people, 311 households, and 227 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 58.0 people per square mile (22.4/km²). There were 402 housing units at an average density of 30.6/sq mi (11.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 75.69% White, 23.26% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.13% Asian, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.79% of the population.
