The Lincoln Highway Association (LHA) maintains a national tourist center in Franklin Grove, in a historic building built by Harry Isaac Lincoln, a cousin of Abraham Lincoln. The LHA is a national organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Lincoln Highway, the first road across the United States of America, which was routed through Franklin Grove.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,052 people, 372 households, and 249 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,835.5 people per square mile (1,097.8/km²). There were 394 housing units at an average density of 1,062.0 per square mile (411.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.24% White, 0.10% African American, 0.10% Asian, 0.29% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.57% of the population.
There were 372 households out of which 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
