Albers is located in western Clinton County at 38°32?41?N 89°36?59?W? / ?38.54472°N 89.61639°W? / 38.54472; -89.61639 (38.544833, -89.616300). Illinois Route 161 runs through the village, leading east 27 miles (43 km) to Centralia and west 6 miles (10 km) to Interstate 64, which leads 28 miles (45 km) farther west to St. Louis. I-64 eastbound can be reached 3 miles (5 km) south of Albers in the village of Damiansville.

As of the census of 2000, there were 878 people, 315 households, and 225 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,211.1 people per square mile (470.8/km²). There were 322 housing units at an average density of 444.1 per square mile (172.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.86% White, 0.11% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.34% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80% of the population.

There were 315 households out of which 43.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
