In Federal Way, Washington, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments. If you're seeking a hair or alcohol test, look no further. Specializing in hair testing, we operate testing sites across all U.S. cities. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is utilized. Hair tests can evaluate for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or customized options.
Lately, hair follicle drug testing is gaining preference over traditional methods. Many workplaces, legal courts, and substance abuse experts now prefer it to standard urine tests. It's favored by zero-tolerance employers, judiciary systems, and probation officers. Its key advantage lies in detecting drug usage over a longer span, up to 90 days, with an observation collection process, making it nearly impossible to tamper with. Nonetheless, urine tests remain superior for detecting recent drug use, i.e., within the past five days.

Utilizing hair testing has become recognized as a significant method for uncovering drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a long-term record of drug and alcohol use by embedding biomarkers within the strands of hair as they grow. When clipped near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection period of up to around three months for substances, including alcohol. Collection of hair is straightforward, relatively tamper-resistant, and convenient for transport.
A 1.5-inch batch of about 200 hair strands (resembling the thickness of a #2 pencil) taken as close as possible to the scalp can yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmatory analysis. For tests involving EtG, additional elements, and/or when exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is suggested. We advise measuring the hair with a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair can't be obtained, a comparable amount of body hair may be used. By "head hair," we mean only hair from the scalp. "Body hair" encompasses other kinds of hair (such as facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The key phases in the lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning is the preliminary processing of a sample into a lab’s system. This involves ensuring the sample is properly sealed and delivered, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and filling any extra data gaps not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.
Screening involves a preliminary rapid check for drugs of abuse. Though Screening is economically efficient for excluding drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be verified for court admissibility. Samples that show a presumptive positive in Screening need a subsequent confirmation.
If a sample registers as presumptively positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample in preparation for Extraction. This phase involves isolating drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than with other methods (like urine or oral fluid), hence why hair drug screening is one of the most challenging methods to execute.
To verify any positive screening outcome, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods are employed. All samples with presumptive positives undergo necessary washing prior to confirmation. The full lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", it is the hair strand that is analyzed, not the follicle beneath the scalp.
