Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Social Circle, Georgia. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol testing, we have centers nationwide ready to conduct these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Hair testing can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG and offer other tailored testing options.

Hair follicle drug tests have gained popularity in recent years. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often prefer them over standard urine tests. These tests are ideal for zero-tolerance policies, probation, and court orders. Hair tests provide a prolonged detection window of up to 90 days and are difficult to tamper with; however, urine tests are still best for detecting recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Seeing hair testing as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption has become prevalent. By trapping biomarkers in the strands' fibers, hair provides a long-lasting history of drug and alcohol use. When gathered near the scalp, hair offers roughly a three-month detection period for substances. The collection process is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil), is gathered from nearest the scalp, yielding 100mg—the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is preferable. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample is advised. If scalp hair is missing, an equivalent amount of body hair can be obtained. When mentioning head hair, it refers exclusively to scalp hair, while body hair includes all other forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary stages in laboratory drug test processing include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves incorporating a sample into the laboratory’s system, ensuring the sample was sealed and dispatched properly, allocating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial check for drug abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient way to dismiss drug use in most samples, court-admissible positive screens need confirmation. Any samples suggesting positive results in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If the Screening phase suggests a positive result, additional hair is retrieved from the initial sample for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are drawn from hair at substantially lower concentrations than in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening an intricate methodology.

Positive results in Screening undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and conforms to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection duration: Hair drug testing can identify drug consumption up to 90 days, compared to the shorter detection window of urine tests.
  • Challenging to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, thereby enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical insight: It offers an overview of drug use trends over time, beyond just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing tends to be pricier compared to other testing methodologies.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and personal variations in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations within hair.

Note: Although commonly deemed "hair follicle tests," the assessment analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Social Circle, GA, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests in efficacy. Hair tests provide superior detection accuracy and reliability, making them a preferred choice for various stakeholders. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
