According to archaeological evidence, the Wampanoag people used West Hartford as one of their winter camps. Fishing and hunting along the Connecticut River, the area of West Hartford offered the Wampanoag people a refuge from the cold winter wind and the river's severe spring flooding. In 1636 Reverend Thomas Hooker led a group of followers from what is now Cambridge, Massachusetts to the "Great River" and eventually established the Hartford Colony. As the colony grew, additional land was needed. In 1672 the Proprietors of Hartford ordered that a Division be created to the West. A total of "72 Long Lots" were laid out between today's Quaker Lane in the East and Mountain Road in the West. The northern boundary was Bloomfield, and the Southern, present day New Britain Avenue. (The western boundary was extended in 1830 to include part of Farmington). In the 1670s, the area was referred to as the "West Division" of Hartford. This remained the official name until 1806 when Connecticut General Assembly started referring to it as "the Society of West Hartford."

Selecting the Right Drug Testing Panel for You

Drug testing panels are classifications of screening groups. Common panels include the 5-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests, each indicating the number of drugs screened. Customizable screens are available as well.

Understanding Drug Testing

A drug test involves the analytical assessment of a biological sample—such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, and/or saliva—to ascertain the presence or absence of specified parent drugs or metabolites. These tests are widely used for detecting performance-enhancing drug use in sports, employer or probation screening, and alcohol concentration (BAC) measurement by police. Strategies and accuracy vary, with BAC tests typically carried out using a breathalyzer and urinalysis being the standard method in workplaces and sports.

Does Passive Exposure to Marijuana Smoke Yield a False Positive?

Passive inhalation from being in proximity to marijuana smokers typically does not result in a false positive, as lab threshold concentrations far surpass those achievable through passive exposure.

Other anomalies in urine tests could indicate false negatives or sample tampering. For example:

  • Low creatinine levels might suggest urine dilution—either by excessive water intake before testing or by direct sample alteration.
  • Creatinine levels are often coupled with specific gravity measurements to detect diluted samples. To counter dilution, testing centers may color toilet water blue to prevent use for sample dilution.
  • Individuals may attempt to introduce enzymes to alter sample stability, although this typically shifts pH levels, which are also monitored during testing.

Duration of Drug Presence in the System

The duration that drugs remain detectable depends on multiple variables such as:

  • Amount of drug taken
  • Frequency of use
  • Drug type
  • Individual metabolism and health
  • Fluid intake post-consumption
  • Physical activity since use
  • Genetic factors affecting drug response
