Selecting the Right Drug Testing Panel for You

Drug test screenings are categorized by panels. Common panels include 5-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests (the number indicates drugs screened). Custom screenings are available.

What is a Drug Test?

Drug tests analyze biological specimens, such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva, to detect specific drugs or their metabolites. Common uses include detecting steroids in sports, screening for prohibited drugs in employment or legal supervision, and testing for blood alcohol content (BAC) by law enforcement through breathalyzers. Urinalysis is the predominant method in sports and workplaces. Other methods vary in accuracy, sensitivity, and detection periods. Drug tests may also provide chemical analysis for safe drug use.

Is Passive Smoke Inhalation a Valid Cause for Marijuana Detection?

Passive inhalation, like being in a room with marijuana smokers, isn't typically valid for positive results, as lab cut-off levels exceed what passive exposure would likely cause.

Urine test anomalies could suggest false negatives or sample tampering. Examples include:

  • Low creatinine can indicate dilution, either from excess water intake or water added to the sample.
  • Creatinine levels and specific gravity can detect dilution. Labs might dye toilet water blue to prevent dilution.
  • Adding enzymes might alter stability, affecting pH, which is also measured.

Drug Detection Duration in the Body

The detection period of drugs varies, influenced by:

  • Drug amount
  • Frequency of use
  • Drug type
  • Individual's metabolism and health
  • Fluid intake post-ingestion
  • Exercise level post-ingestion
  • Genetic factors affecting drug response
