Choosing the Right Drug Testing Panel

Drug screenings are often categorized as a drug testing panel. Common configurations include 5 panel, 10 panel, and 12 panel tests, which dictate the number of substances screened. Custom screenings are also available.

Explanation of a Drug Test

A drug test analyzes various biological specimens like urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva to detect specific drugs or metabolites. These are commonly used to identify performance-enhancing drugs in sports, employers testing for illegal drugs, and law enforcement checking blood alcohol content (BAC) using breathalyzers. Urinalysis is commonly employed in workplace and sports settings. Different methods vary in accuracy, sensitivity, and detection duration and may also involve quantitative analysis of illicit substances.

Impact of Passive Smoke on Drug Tests

Inhaling "passive" smoke or being in the vicinity of others smoking marijuana generally does not affect test results significantly, as lab analysis thresholds are reasonably high to ignore passive exposure.

Other irregularities in urine can suggest possible false negatives or deliberate tampering. For example:

  • Low creatinine levels may imply sample tampering through dilution either by consuming excess water before the test or by adding water to the sample.
  • Combining creatinine values with specific gravity readings helps assess sample dilution. To counter this, labs might dye toilet water blue to prevent dilution.
  • Adding certain enzymes by subjects aiming to alter sample stability often affects the pH, which is also evaluated.

Drug Retention in the Body

The detection window for a drug test varies based on several factors, including:

  • The drug's dosage
  • The frequency of use
  • The specific drug
  • Individual metabolic rates and overall health
  • Fluid intake post-consumption
  • Physical activity post-consumption
  • Genetic differences impacting drug metabolism

Local Area Info: Henderson, Nevada

Henderson, officially the City of Henderson, is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States, about 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Las Vegas. It is the second-largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas, with an estimated population of 302,539 in 2017. The city is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, which spans the entire Las Vegas Valley. Henderson occupies the southeastern end of the valley, at an elevation of 1,864 feet (568 m).

The township of Henderson first emerged in the 1940s during World War II with the building of the Basic Magnesium Plant. Henderson quickly became the main supplier of magnesium in the United States, which was called the "miracle metal" of World War II. The plant supplied the US War Department with magnesium for incendiary munition casings and airplane engines, frames, and other parts. A quarter of all US wartime magnesium came from the Henderson Plant to strengthen aluminum, using 25% of Hoover Dam's power to separate the metal from its ore by electrolysis. Mayor Jim Gibson's grandfather, Fred D. Gibson, was one of the original engineers sent to Great Britain to learn the secret of creating the "miracle metal" which would help the United States and its allies win the war. The British liaison officer sent to Henderson, Major Charles Ball, had a street named after him. There was some concern "Ball St," would sound improper, so the street was named "Major Avenue".

Although "born in America's defense", Henderson's future after World War II was uncertain. In 1947, magnesium production was no longer necessary for defense, and most of BMI's 14,000 employees moved away. Enrollment in the school system was reduced by two thirds, and well over half the townsite houses, built to house plant workers, became vacant. In 1947, the United States War Asset Administration offered Henderson for sale as war surplus property.
