Which Drug Testing Panel is Right for You?
Drug testing panels, such as 5-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests (indicating the number of drugs screened), are common, with custom options also available.
What is a Drug Test?
A drug test is a scientific examination of biological specimens, like urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, and/or saliva, to assess the presence of specified drugs or their metabolites. Key uses include detecting performance-enhancing drugs in sports, employer and parole/probation screening, and determining blood alcohol content (BAC) for police operations. BAC is commonly measured via a breathalyzer, while urinalysis remains predominant for workplace and sports drug testing. Various other methods offer diverse accuracy, sensitivity, and detection periods.
Does Passive Smoke Inhalation Cause a False Positive for Marijuana?
Inhalation of "passive" smoke, such as being in a room with marijuana smokers, typically won't result in a false positive, as analytical thresholds exceed those possible through passive exposure.
Urine screen abnormalities could signal a false negative or intentional sample adulteration. Reasons might include:
- Low creatinine levels might indicate urine dilution either through excessive water consumption before testing or by water addition to the sample.
- Creatinine levels combined with specific gravity help identify diluted samples. Coloring toilet water blue is one tactic to reduce dilution risk.
- Adding specific enzymes can affect sample stability, altering pH—a factor also tested.
How Long Do Drugs Remain in Your System?
The detection window or "look-back" period for drug tests is influenced by several factors, including:
- Drug quantity taken
- Frequency of drug use
- Type of drug
- Individual metabolic rate and health
- Fluids consumed post-drug ingestion
- Exercise post-drug ingestion
- Genetic factors influencing drug response

Local Area Info: Apple Valley, Minnesota
Apple Valley is a city in northwestern Dakota County in the State of Minnesota, and a suburb of the Twin Cities. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 49,084, making it the 18th most populous city in Minnesota. In 2013, Money Magazine named Apple Valley the 17th best place to live in the United States, up from 20th in 2010, 24th in 2008 and 28th in 2007.
Apple Valley was founded in 1969, and was previously named Lebanon Township. Orin Thompson, a real estate developer, was responsible for the city's early development. He contracted a company to determine where the next growth in the Twin Cities would be. It was one-half of a mile from County Road 42 and Cedar Avenue. Thompson bought the first houses and streets from the Brobacks, who built the city's first four houses. The firm that selected this area was in Apple Valley, California, so Thompson took that name for the development. An alternate explanation for the name change exists, however. According to local developer Henry Broback, Lebanon Township was renamed Apple Valley because "...when you drive east on (County Road) 42 and turn to enter Lebanon, it reminded them of Apple Valley, California, which was a nice community."
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.57 square miles (45.51 km2), of which 16.86 square miles (43.67 km2) is land and 0.71 square miles (1.84 km2) is water. The city's geography is rolling, with elevation from the lowest to the highest points in the city varying by a hundred feet or more. The downtown area and its adjacent residential district (which formed the original core of the city when it was incorporated) are in a shallow valley. A lot of the area around Apple Valley is still undeveloped, or contains large quarries.
