Evans City is located in southwestern Butler County at 40°46?10?N 80°3?41?W? / ?40.76944°N 80.06139°W? / 40.76944; -80.06139 (40.769310, -80.061409), in the valley of Breakneck Creek. It is bordered to the north, west, and south by Jackson Township, and to the north, east, and south by Forward Township.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,009 people, 819 households, and 548 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,476.1 people per square mile (957.6/km²). There were 850 housing units at an average density of 1,047.6 per square mile (405.2/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.10% White, 0.15% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 0.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.05% of the population.
There were 819 households, out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.02.
