Local Area Info: New Melle, Missouri
New Melle was platted ca. 1850. The community was named after Melle, Germany, the former home of a share of the first settlers. A post office called New Melle has been in operation since 1850. New Melle incorporated as a city in 1978.
As of the census of 2010, there were 475 people, 179 households, and 143 families residing in the city. The population density was 302.5 inhabitants per square mile (116.8/km2). There were 195 housing units at an average density of 124.2 per square mile (48.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% White, 0.6% African American, 0.8% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, and 1.1% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
There were 179 households of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.3% were married couples living together, 2.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 20.1% were non-families. 17.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.01.
