Local Area Info: Texas State Highway 146

State Highway146 (SH146) is a northsouth highway in southeastern Texas beginning in Livingston, starting at U.S. Highway59 (US59) (Future I?69) and proceeds south to Liberty, where it meets US90. It continues in Dayton at US90 and proceeds south through Baytown, terminating at I?45 near La Marque and Texas City. The Fred Hartman Bridge over the Houston Ship Channel carries SH146 traffic.

SH146 was designated on March 19, 1930, from SH6/US75 northward to Texas City as a renumbering of SH6A. On July 2, 1932, SH146 extended north to Dayton. On August 3, 1932, SH146 extended north to Cleveland (the plan was to delete SH 132 when this extension was completed). On September 22, 1932, this extension was canceled, and SH146 was instead extended north to Livingston, replacing SH132. On December 16, 1967, SH146 was relocated east of Liberty. On February 21, 1984, SH146 extended south from SH3 to I?45. On March 28, 1996, SH146 was relocated in Baytown replacing Loop 201. The old route of SH 146 was redesignated as Business State Highway 146-E.

On September 23, 1959, Spur 201 was redesignated as Loop 201 and was extended to SH 146 at McKinney Road. On October 22, 1976, Loop 201 was extended to SH 146 at Ferry Road. On March 28, 1996, Loop 201 was redesignated as part of SH 146
