Prosser had its start by the building of the railroad through that territory in the spring of 1888. It was named for T. J. Prosser, a railroad official. Prosser was incorporated as a village in 1907.

As of the census of 2010, there were 66 people, 34 households, and 22 families residing in the village. The population density was 264.0 inhabitants per square mile (101.9/km2). There were 40 housing units at an average density of 160.0 per square mile (61.8/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 100.0% White.
