Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids, including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the total "economic burden" of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.

Summerlin South, also seen on maps as South Summerlin, is an affluent census-designated place (CDP) in Clark County, Nevada, United States, on the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley and adjacent to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It is so named because it is a southward extension of the master-planned community of Summerlin. Nearly all of Summerlin South is in ZIP code 89135. The population was 24,085 at the 2010 Census.

Summerlin South is considered to be one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in the Las Vegas Valley and the United States as a whole, with a mean household income of $306,287. The area includes The Ridges, a highly affluent guard-gated community of luxury mansions in southwest Summerlin. It is bounded on the north by Charleston Boulevard, Hualapai Way to the east and Red Rock National Conservation Area to the west. Current development expands just below Russell Rd on the south but future developments will expand to Maule Ave.
